EEG Pet — Immersive Installation

Designed and built a 14m×6m×5.8m immersive art installation where participants' brainwaves summon the 3D form of their departed pet. Inspired by Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood — where Edward Elric pursues the Philosopher's Stone to resurrect his mother — EEG Pet transforms brainwaves into the transmutation circle and grief into a summoning ritual. Wearing an EMOTIV EPOC X headset, participants' alpha waves drive a real-time particle system projected onto a fog screen via a Panasonic PT-FRZ120C (12,000 lumens) mounted on an engineering gantry truss. The more emotionally focused the participant, the more scattered particles coalesce into their pet's 3D form. The visual climax flows from the Philosopher's Stone scattering overhead to light converging upon a rising crystal ball.

Process

Built the real-time visual system in TouchDesigner, connecting EMOTIV EPOC X via Cortex SDK with threshold-triggered particle behavior — alpha wave intensity controls particle cohesion and form emergence. Designed a dual-projection setup: the Panasonic PT-FRZ120C mounted on a mobile cinema dolly opposite the fog screen for the main particle summoning, and a ceiling projector for the Philosopher's Stone animation overhead. The fog screen itself is suspended from an engineering gantry truss. Engineered the spatial sequence: top projection scatters the Stone → a mechanical lift slowly rises → light converges onto the crystal ball → camera perspective cuts into the ball interior. The 3D pet model is generated upstream via the Dog 3D Generator website (Tripo3D API, photo → OBJ) and loaded into the particle system.
