The Multimodal of Cuteness(Website)

Work Overview: Designed and developed a responsive website exploring 100 years of cute culture — from 1925 early shōjo to 2025 AI-generated mascots. 61 iconic characters were hand-redrawn in pixel art and organized into an interactive timeline. The site serves as a digital companion for Youthinspire's UNFOLD Macao exhibition, treating cuteness not as a visual style but as a multisensory frequency that each sense interprets differently.

Process

Researched the global evolution of cute culture across Japan, the US, Korea, and China. Redesigned 61 characters in a unified 8-bit pixel art style, preserving each one's recognizable identity. Built the site with full responsive layouts (desktop, tablet, mobile), a scrolling timeline structure, individual entry pages with ingredients/steps metaphors, and a footer featuring Pac-Man pixel art. The visual language draws from Macao's retro gaming culture — bright blue backgrounds, pixel typography, and arcade-inspired navigation.
